Children and teenagers engaged in Art (Visual research) + Applied Art (Design Thinking)

As part of the Creative Stories theme in 2017, we have designed a series of projects that explore interesting stories behind the unique communities in which we live, under the name Hong Kong Hunt 香港行 2017. Using art, design, architecture, storytelling and design thinking as creative tools of inquiry and problem-solving, children researched and expressed their perception of the past, present and possible future of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Hunt 香港行 2017 is a further development of an initiative started by CreativeKids in 2002 to help children find their cultural roots and to develop a sense of belonging in this ever-changing city. The Hong Kong Hunt 香港行 2002 was invited to exhibit in Guangdong Museum of Art.

Children's Art Exhibition-in-a-Truck in May 2017

This exhibition of artworks brings together children and families, past and present, reality and imagination. Ideas and forms of expression are as diverse as the city they are depicting. Parents and children co-researched stories about places and people and discovered real life needs in the community that called forempathetic solutions and design thinking. The 3-day tour was a great success, as we visited 6 prime locations in HK Island & Kowloon. It gave audience glimpses of HK Hunt 2017 Phase II, which is a Full Exhibition in July. The creation of exhibits is inspired by the HK stories during their site visit to old communities.

Full Exhibition at Yu Lok Lane, Sai Ying Pun in July 2017

Exhibiting at a preserved building for the first time - HK Hunt 2017 is a living example of Applied Arts at the community. Students are motivated to explore the communities for untold stories which became inspirations for their art, design and architecture pieces. With a genuine understanding of local culture and traditional values, they have developed problem solving skills and empathy in design thinking.
